‘We’re a nation of smartphone users’- says a recent survey by Deloitte. The media consumer survey reveals that the number of smartphone users in Australia has increased by 21% in the last three years and now stands at 81%. And when these users aren’t browsing on social media, they’re window shopping on ecommerce sites. Does this mean that there needs to be a separate strategy for mobile websites?

With more than half the population in Australia using a mobile to connect to the internet, mobile internet marketing in WA makes sense not only for owners of ecommerce sites but also for conventional brick and mortar store owners. Unlike desktop users who’re shopping at leisure, mobile users are probably on the go and would like to find a product with the least number of clicks. Creating better functionalities on the mobile site for mobile users isn’t enough; they need to be encouraged to search using their phone.

Some tactics to draw user attention towards mobile sites includes;

•    Encouraging Multiple Check-ins: Not just the company website, but other check-ins like Foursquare, Google+ etc. should be encouraged.

•    Spread the word through your social media account: Your social media account can be used to communicate about offers, discounts and other promotional deals.

•    Sign up for Mobile Directories: Mobile directories like Google+ Local can be used to register your business name, business hours, phone number and address.

•    A Mobile App: Smartphone users prefer to refer mobile apps over websites. These can be used to sell product or send newsletters to users.
