Google or Facebook for advertising?

Dont make the mistake of advertising on the wrong platform.

If you had $5 and wanted a customer, would you advertise on Facebook or Google?  You need to think about your customer and what they would do.

If my hot water system had broken down and I needed to fix it fast, my first thought would be to search on Google for a plumber in my area.  I would click on the first few results and see which website appealed to me.  If I saw 24/7 Plumber, Free quotes, I would probably call them first.

In the above situation you would spend your $5 on Google.

So when would you advertise on Facebook?

Say you owned a dress shop.  Most ladies love to window shop and if they see something they like and the price is right you generally have a buyer.  The buyer may of never known that type of dress was even available.

The owner of the dress shop can target it’s previous clients, their friends and ladies within a 10 km radius between 35 and 45 years of age, announcing and showing the brand new range and a call to action, to either buy online or come into the shop. This can prove to be very powerful and hence why businesses are spending billions of dollars on Facebook.

Target Market

Facebook is incredible at advertising and making your service or product known to a target market.

  • If you are a business coach you can advertise to business owners.
  • Fishing stores can target people interested in Fishing.
  • Nightclubs can target Adolescence within 10 kms.
  • Mortgage brokers can target FIFO.
  • Dating agency can target single men aged 40 to 50.
  • Function centers can target engaged couples.
  • Real Estate agents can target investors.
  • Boat mechanics can target people with interests in Boats.
  • Wineries can target wine lovers.
  • Accountant’s can target workers within 15 kms.

I think you get where I’m going with this. If you have a target audience Facebook can target your business towards them.

Two things business owners need to know about Google Paid and Non-Paid Advertising

Capture

Google search is simply a tool that your customers use and can make you $’000’s

  1. Paid Per Click (PPC) is the ads you see at the top of Google and the right hand side.

123

Advantages

Your business can get to the top of Google almost immediately
Headlines and words can be created to attract the clients click. E.g. Plumber Perth $50 Off
You can direct the customer to the exact page you want to increase conversions. Landing pages are great in this situation
You can target the location of the clients. E.g. If you would just like to show these ads to people living within 10km of Perth city
You can pick what days and the time of day you would like the ad to appear
You can have your ad show on particular “key phrases” that your clients type into Google. Google will even tell you what people are typing in

Disadvantages:

Once your budget runs out you are no longer seen. This can happen at 9am in the morning and you won’t be shown again unless you increase your budget.
Research has shown that only 11% of people click on the ads. This is also supported by our clients reports who we manage PPC.
PPC can be complicated, like anything it takes a bit of learning and there are so many options and variances that need to be taken into consideration. i.e. Negative keywords, quality score, manual bids, auto bidding and conversion tracking to name a few.

2. Organic Listings. The listings you see under the top ads are what’s termed “organic” or “natural” listings.  The reason why Google is such a great tool is due to the fact the result is the most relevant and there are choices.

456

Advantages:

You can be clicked on all day long and you won’t disappear.
89% of consumers click on the organic rankings.
You do not pay every time someone clicks on your website.
Traffic and leads coming through your organic rankings increase the value of your business.

Disadvantages

It can take months for your business to achieve good rankings.
Its not always possible to have the heading you want and be directed to the page you want your clients to go to.
It takes a lot of work to get rankings and if unethical methods are used to get you ranking you can be wiped of Google altogether.

Yes I may be biased because I live and breathe Google, but just think do you or any of your customers use Google?  If Yes then consider an internet marketing plan.

Mobile Internet Marketing: Does your Site Need a Separate Strategy to Target Mobile Phone Users

‘We’re a nation of smartphone users’- says a recent survey by Deloitte. The media consumer survey reveals that the number of smartphone users in Australia has increased by 21% in the last three years and now stands at 81%. And when these users aren’t browsing on social media, they’re window shopping on ecommerce sites. Does this mean that there needs to be a separate strategy for mobile websites?
